Alex Meets the Sipkemas

Yesterday our friend Amy came over with her kids, Bryan & Jessica. The kids kept Maggie busy out in the yard while Amy snuggled the baby. It's obvious that Amy has Schurman blood in her, as Alex cried when she took him from me. What does my boy have against Schurmans? ;)

Bryan & Jessica came in after a while to take their turns with the baby. They both held him, and Bryan even got to give Alexander a bottle.

Sipkemas, we need to get together with the guys soon & all go out to eat or something!

Other than that, it was a drooly, spitty, messy day. Let's hope today is better, as Alex is getting his 3 month pictures taken

14 lbs already!

(I don't know why the words are clickable...sorry!)

Alex will be 3 months old tomorrow! Wow! My friend Karen has a baby scale (she's so cool!) so I weighed Alexander at her house last night. The scale said 14.06 lbs, but that's with clothes on. So my baby boy is about 14 lbs.

0 - 3 month clothes are for up to 12.5 lbs. Alex still fits in most, but his pants are getting too short. We broke out the 3 - 6 month clothes over the weekend, and I'm slowly setting aside the 0 -3s as they get too small.

Here are some fun pictures from Easter weekend.

Happy Birthday, Kate! Congratulations, Derek!

We celebrated Katelynn's birthday on Saturday night. Derek made Profession of Faith on Sunday. I've got a random assortment of pictures from both events, but ironically, none of Derek. That kid does NOT like cameras! :)

This Little Guy

Each day, Keith and I remind each other how amazing it is that this perfect little guy came from us. It's absolutely astounding. Alexander is a gift from God, and we know it. Watching him grow is such a joy. In just a few short months, Alex has changed so much.
At almost 3 months...
  • This little guy smiles so easily.
  • This little guy talks to his toys.
  • This little guy has the cutest laugh.
  • This little guy can turn 180 degrees in his crib while swaddled tightly. (How?!)
  • This little guy watches every move that his doggy makes.
  • This little guy loves to watch his daddy.
  • This little guy has found his voice, and he uses it often.
  • This little guy loves to listen to people singing.
  • This little guy has a mind of his own, and he proves it every day.
  • This little guy has squeals and coos that make us grin every day.
  • This little guy is sleeping 7 - 8 hours most nights.
  • This little guy loves to stare at his toys, almost as if he's trying to figure out how they work.
  • This little guy can frustrate us to no end, and then flash us such a big grin that we forget why we were upset in the first place.
  • This little guy holds his head up very well.
  • This little guy does not like to be held like a baby. Sit him up and he's happy.

I'll probably add to this list as I think of things that he can do at this age. Since I'm doing a horrible job of keeping up with a baby book, Keith & I are both glad to have this blog as a record!

I Changed My Mind

It's just too beautiful! When weather.com says it's 58 degrees, how can you NOT take a walk?
We just walked to the dead end of our street, checked out the new house going up, walked to the cul-de-sac, turned around, and came home. Maybe a 5 minute walk, but it was just nice to get out & enjoy a beautiful day!
Alex just relaxed & seemed to enjoy it. Maggie tugged to go faster. We'll need to get her used to going baby speed!
As for the baby getting cold - Alex had on a onesie, a cotton sleeper, a fleece sleeper, a hat, and a blanket. I think he was probably hot! :)

What A Beautiful Day!

Today is so beautiful! It's almost 60 degrees, and I was tempted to take Alex for a walk. I didn't. I skipped it simply because he was fussy at the time it would have been best to go, and then I needed to get started on making dinner. I regret that, because the weather won't be this warm again for a while. I can't wait for springtime weather!

Here are some fun pics from our day at home today. (I still need to post about Tuesday's trip with Grandma & Nana...guess I'm going out of order. That will be tomorrow's post!)

Tummy time & 11 week pictures...

Preston & Alex

My neighbor, April, got called in to work at the last minute, and she needed someone to watch Preston until her sister arrived to babysit. Preston is about 11 months old now. Hopefully the boys will be friends someday. For now, Alex just stares at Preston while Preston pokes Alex. I've been looking forward to getting pictures of the boys together, but Alex wasn't cooperative...and Preston was too afraid of the dog to pay attention to the camera. Poor Maggie got banished to the backyard. Oh well, there's always next time!

Sunday

Here's Alex all dressed up for church...last time for Mr. Snowman. We want spring! He was a pretty good boy for Mama. She got to hear the whole sermon!

Grandma & Papa came over for dinner and cards on Sunday night. Alex is a pretty good card player, but he & Grandma couldn't beat Daddy.:(

So I Lied...

I wrote yesterday that we'd be staying home all week. I guess I lied, because Alex and I went to Merrillville yesterday to have lunch with Grandma & Grandpa. They just returned from Hawaii, and they needed to see their baby boy. Alex and I met them for lunch at Steak & Shake. Yum!

Afterwards, we went with Grandma and Grandpa to the Verizon store to get Grandpa a new phone. His other phone is now swimming with the whales off the coast of Maui, I believe. While at the store, I found out how to get Keith's old phone set up with my number, so now I actually get decent reception on my phone. How nice to actually USE the phone I'm paying for each month. ;)

Last night was Keith's last volleyball game of the season. It was the tournament, and his team competed for 3rd or 4th place. Rob and Bonnie's team won, so Keith's team is in 4th place for the season. We stayed to watch the other CCOD game, and they ended up in fifth place.
Alexander stayed awake to watch the whole thing. I can't even imagine how big he'll be at the next volleyball game...in January 2009!
I don't have any pictures of this, but thought I'd mention (so I don't forget the date when I update his baby book) that Alexander started batting at his toys just a few days ago (on March 6th). It's another of those little milestones that tell us he's getting too big! We have a bit of video of this, but it's on the video camera. I have absolutely no clue how to get video from the camcorder to the computer. That is Keith's job! Alex is so cute, just flailing his arms around hoping to hit the toys on his play gym or bouncy seat.

Alex is sleeping through the night most nights now. Four of the past five nights have been great! 7 hours, 8 hours, 4.5 hours, 7 hours, 6.5 hours. Even the 4.5 hour night is decent, but the other nights are terrific. I love waking up to daylight! Today was 6.5 hours, but he ate and then went back to sleep for another hour. This is why I've been staying home. I figured that Babywise was probably right: routine in the daytime makes for better sleep at night. Go Babywise!

That's about it...nothing big on the agenda for today, just a nice weekend with a little extra Daddy time! :)
