Little Hearts For His Glory, Unit 10

This year, we are using Heart of Dakota’s Little Hearts For His Glory curriculum.
It is adaptable for children ages 5 – 7.  To read more about our choice,

Alex is 5 years, 11 months.
He will turn 6 in December 2013.
This week, we had a neat history lesson about Alexander The Great!
I expected that OUR Alexander would be excited to read about someone with his own name, but quite honestly, he didn’t care all that much.  Oh well!

We’ve been reading Bible stories about how God’s people overcome evil with good.
(Romans 12:21)
Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego
Daniel
Esther

We played a few fun drama games this week to act out Bible stories.
We are finishing All About Reading Level 1 – and moving on to level 2 – this year.

We’re taking a few weeks to just ‘rest’ in what he has learned before we begin AAR 2.
(Please keep in mind that I have the older version of LHFHG, and if you purchase a new guide, your math will follow a different sequence than what we are doing.  I created my own spreadsheet to match the math activities in the older version of LHFHG to the lessons in Singapore Essentials.  It’s not perfect, but it will work for us!)

Alexander the Great had a horse who was afraid of its own shadow, so we
explored shadows and how to change the size of a shadow

We also learned a bit about camouflage

We are using Happy Handwriting and Rod & Staff ABC series.

his much-loved Do It Carefully workbook
I still have to keep close tabs on Alex to make sure he doesn’t do EXTRA pages.
It’s nice to have a kiddo who’s enthusiastic about his work Smile

I can’t find the picture of his drawing/writing assignment from this week.
We are close to the end of Peter Rabbit.
I must admit that I miss the cuteness of our MFW K art projects.  I think there is sometimes more art technique in the Little Hearts For His Glory projects, but they’re not always “Let’s hang this on the wall to admire how cute it is!” projects.  Sometimes I think about going on Pinterest to find cuter projects. (You know, in all my free time!  Ha! It sure is easier to just do what the Little Hearts manual says!)
This week’s project was coloring Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and the angel, writing 3+1=4,  and using warm colors to paint over them.  Then you use a paper towel to blot the paint.  (It was supposed to be black crayon on white paper, but we did it backwards…whoops!)

I came across these Daily Math & Literacy pages from DreamBigKinders, and I thought they’d be a great daily page for my little worksheet lover.  (Never mind that I purposely chose a very hands-on curriculum; I have a son who appreciates worksheets and asks for more!  Go figure!)

Every 5 days, the pages change a bit.  It’s been fun watching Alex go through these pages.  He can do most of them independently, though he does ask for help when it comes to writing simple sentences.
