All About Reading

All About Reading Level Pre1 is the wonderful match for a four year old who is ready to learn about letters and their sounds, while Level 1 is a perfect fit for your kindergartener who is ready to start blending sounds and reading words!

We are blogging our way through AAR Level 1 in 2013.

My Father's World
My Father's World Kindergarten is a very gentle approach to starting a kindergarten curriculum with your child.  We thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on projects, fun activities, character lessons, and quality children's literature in this Biblically-based program!  Your child will be easily reading CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words by the end of this program.
(This program was redesigned in early 2012, and they added new covers in 2013.)

We blogged our way through MFW K during the 2012-2013 school year.

Heart of Dakota offers hands-on Christian curriculum loaded with FUN!
Little Hands is for 2 - 5 year olds, offering activities to match your child's level.
Little Hearts is a kindergarten - first grade program for 5 - 7 year olds.

AlphaPhonics
We tried Alpha Phonics in late 2012, and I found it to be a very good (and inexpensive!) program for teaching your child to read.  If you are looking for a basic phonics-based program, you may want to take a look at Alpha Phonics.  {CLICK HERE} to link to our review of the program.

Want a great laminator?
This is probably the most popular home laminator available.  Keep an eye on the price - if often drops in November/December.  Don't feel the need to use name-brand laminating sleeves.  I use the ones shown below, and they are just as good as the Scotch ones...only with a price tag that makes me much happier!

Preschool Printables (both free and 99 cent options)
Living Life Intentionally (free)
Mrs. Whary (low cost preK/K printables)
Little Adventures Preschool (low cost tot and preschool printables)

Some of these ladies have really been an inspiration to me, and I'm so thankful for the things they share.  A few have even become online friends.  Thanks, ladies!

Hi! I just stumbled upon your blog. I was trying to contact you to discuss your recommendations for me, but your contact page doesn't show a form on it. At least not on my Firefox browser. Can you check on that or try to contact me? When you have time.

Basically, I'm choosing a pre-K program for my 4 almost 5 yr old. I have looked at a beka, but am concerned he won't do many worksheets. Also I was hoping for a DVD based phonics program. He knows all letters & their sounds, and is learning CVC words very slowly at the moment. Have you ever looked at a beka? MFW is interesting, but I'm afraid it won't move along quickly enough for him to begin reading. I also looked over All about Reading & Spelling, and was very impressed with how they laid out the parent guide. I don't like to read lots of instructions! I want a really good phonics program because I hope he will be good at spelling, just like I was.

As for math, he counts to 100 and counts by 10's. Still getting it, though, and starting addition. I'm looking at MathUSee. Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

I did update the contact form page just now. It seems that the service I was using has shut down without warning! :(

Anyway, I tried contacting you via your profile, but you don't have an email address associated with your profile. I'll just wait on you to get back to me :)
